I was born in 1966 in Los Angeles and grew up in southern California. I moved to the Bay Area in 1989 and worked for 13 years doing graphic design and communications for a non-profit organization. After a brief stint working in the Kronos Quartet's organization, I went back to school earning degrees in Art Practice and Interdisciplinary Studies (with an emphasis on Consciousness & Social Change). I've been an artist and musician all my life, a photographer for 20 years and a painter for almost 10. While painting has only recently emerged as my primary artistic vehicle, I bring 20 years of graphic, photographic, musical and political experience to my work. I still do graphic design to make ends meet. My paintings usually represent my own photographs, often depicting flattened visual spaces such as walls or other "flat" surfaces. Another recurring motif for me is a series of shapes inspired by the eight trigrams of the I Ching, which I've been a student of for many years.
